I tried the postscript version of this driver and the printer is now printing pdf's correctly at full speed. Otherwise, maybe the firmware files are missing so that not all GPU features are available. They take the updates from the same repositories. And I agree with your comments about the unnecessary OT discussions about the principles underlying headless server sysadmin tasks diluting the valuable bits. http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/please-help-with-hijack-this-log.33389/
So I'm assuming the newer ATI stuff is not quite fully supported. Ask a question and give support. TechSpot is a registered trademark. I suggest that you search for a bug report (https://launchpad.net/), and if not reported, then report it.
I do not use the non-free Nvidia driver because it causes many more problems than it solves: every kernel upgrade might break things until a new driver is released. Add it in /boot/grub2/grub.cfg to the kernel commandline for the kernel you want to boot, or change the boot config inside grub2 for a oneshot (F12). You don't need to run a special program to print it. It worked with version 4.6, 4.7, and now 4.8.
See the attachment. I agree that it should be easy to boot the machine without a monitor attached, but I would say that's not "normal", and perhaps the hardware or software doesn't handle it I called Time Warner and they don't see anything wrong??!! http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/hijack-this-log-internet-explorer-wont-work.139894/ The company may have an answer (but probably won't).
But what is the difference between the 2 editions? I am trying to get my hands on a GTX970 to see if this is specific to the card. When I was chatting with a sysadmin friend at Bank of America he asked me why I wasn't using the SMB configuration tool that's built into Red Hat's minimal server GUI. Good luck! I agree. Same damn issue. However it will boot under 4.5 but the monitor(s) connected to the 970 card will not work. (I run two cards). If your headless server is hooked to your home stereo system, you can bring up vagalume (remotely) and stream last.fm. Does anyone know how to force the X11/GUI to load when there are no monitors/hardware attached?
