I had the same problem, installed another copy on a different partition and with the same problem, tryed everything, but no luck. If it still continues to reboot after that then it points to a hardware problem, and the power supply would be first on my list of suspects.
Must be something else kaput. I assume its an IDE drive with a large flat cable. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. then you start win xp set up cd ...
